Reaching the Community

The Public Education Department of the Leesburg Volunteer Fire Company proudly serves the community through a wide range of educational programs, special events, and outreach activities. Through these efforts, our members build positive relationships with residents while promoting fire safety, emergency preparedness, and community engagement.

In 2025, the department received 56 outreach requests and successfully completed 40 events throughout the community. Each event provided opportunities to educate residents, connect with families, and support LVFC's mission of service and prevention.

Birthday Parties

A firefighter, accompanied by administrative staff, may bring a fire apparatus to birthday parties, along with firehouse-themed giveaways. Children have the opportunity to meet firefighters, learn basic fire safety concepts, and explore a fire engine in a fun and memorable setting.

Community Events & Festivals

LVFC participates in local community events and festivals by providing apparatus displays, fire safety information, and opportunities for residents to interact with firefighters. These events promote emergency preparedness, fire prevention education, and positive community engagement.

Touch-A-Truck Events

Touch-A-Truck events provide hands-on experiences that allow children and families to explore emergency vehicles, learn about firefighting equipment, and meet the volunteers who serve their community.

Ride-Around-Town & Special Appearances

Fire apparatus may be used for community ride-arounds, neighborhood celebrations, parades, and other special occasions when operationally feasible. These appearances strengthen community connections while providing opportunities to share important fire and life safety information.

School Visits & Classroom Presentations

Firefighters visit schools and childcare centers to provide age-appropriate fire safety education. Topics may include home escape planning, Stop-Drop-and-Roll, calling 9-1-1, smoke alarms, and general emergency preparedness. These interactive presentations help children stay safe while building familiarity with first responders.

Fire Station Tours

Station tours offer community members an inside look at fire department operations, apparatus, and equipment. Visitors learn about emergency response, firefighter responsibilities, and fire safety through engaging, hands-on experiences.

School & Youth Organization Events

Firefighters and administrative personnel frequently attend school functions, scout programs, youth group events, and educational activities. Depending on availability, members may bring a fire engine and demonstrate equipment, including LVFC's mini engine, Freddie.

Request an Outreach Event

The Leesburg Volunteer Fire Company remains committed to expanding public education opportunities and meeting the growing demand for community outreach. Requests are reviewed based on volunteer availability, operational readiness, staffing, and scheduling considerations.

Please note that LVFC does not participate in recreational spray downs, following updated regulations from LCFR. Our outreach efforts are focused on fire and life safety education, community engagement, and public safety awareness.
