The Leesburg Volunteer Fire Company is truly a community based, volunteer organization. With the exception of the career staff that operates from Station 20 during the daytime hours, the people who respond to your emergencies from our stations are volunteers. They receive no direct compensation from the town, the county, or the fire company. These dedicated men and women save our community millions of dollars each year in salary and benefit costs that would otherwise have to be funded by town and county taxes.
The operations of the fire company are funded in a variety of ways. Many people assume that we are fully funded by the taxes they pay on real estate, cars, and on other purchases they make. While it is true that part of our funding is derived from tax revenue, our operations would not be possible without the generous support of you, the residents of our community.
Through raffles, mail campaigns, and other activities, the fire company works very hard to ensure our financial viability. Unfortunately, the equipment we use is very specialized and therefore, quite expensive. As a result, we are continually trying to increase our revenues so that we can utilize the most advanced equipment available when you call on us for assistance. We appreciate the support that you have shown us over the years and ask you to continue your generosity into the future so that we will always be ready to help.
In 2006, we signed a contract to purchase a new ladder truck. This vehicle when fully equipped will cost over $1,000,000!!! Clearly, we need your support to continue to provide the services you expect and deserve.
Shown below are two graphs that show our sources of revenue and the areas of expenditure for calendar year 2006. Clearly, the vast majority of our funding goes directly into the service we provide.
